Vila Palace
Journey through a thousand years of history in Portugal’s oldest palace.
The grand and magnificent palace where the heart of Sintra beats.
In the centre of Sintra, with its iconic conical chimneys, stands the National Palace of Sintra, the only one to have stood throughout Portugal’s history. Made up of several buildings constructed and modified over the centuries, its origins possibly date back to the 10th or 11th centuries, in Islamic times. In the Middle Ages, the palace was both a refuge for monarchs, attracted by the cool climate and abundance of game, and the centre of administration for the queens of Portugal. Today, Sintra Palace offers a journey through time, allowing visitors to explore a space full of memories and remarkable events.
